Chinese Art Renaissance
Nowa painters of the Chinese oil painting and sculptors are developing together, into a superpower of contemporary art. The artists from Asia, and particularly China, mastering a new list of the worldâ ™ € s best-selling contemporary artists last year. Among the worldâ ™ € s most sought after are the names of unknown artists Zhang Xiaogang, Yue Minjun and Zeng Fanzhi.
Of the worldâ ™ € s 20 best-selling artists, 13 are from Asia, with 11 from China. Asian artists that six of the 10 most sold at auction, five of whom are Chinese. Experts predict that within a decade, the term â € € œAsian arta be so widely used as â € € œWestern arta and be responsible for the majority of overall sales.
The annual survey of world art market by auctioning Artprice site monitoring and Axa insurance company lists the 500 best-selling artists, with 2,900 auctions between July 2007 and June 2008. While the four contemporary artists are Buyout Western superstars Jeff Koons, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Damien Hirst and Richard Prince, most of the rest are Asian. Other Chinese artists in the top 10 are Wang Guangyi and Yan Pei-Ming. Japana € ™ s Takashi Murakami is at number eight, while the Indian-born Anish Kapoor, who lives in England, is number 18. This is a seismic shift in an art market dominated by the Western tradition for almost 500 years.
â € œThe total revenue generated by the auction of 100 artists from China in 2003-4 amounted to £ 860,000, â € says the report. â € œThe same 100 generating revenues of  £ 270 million over the past 12 months. Of these 100, three are on strike so that each generates over £  € 26m.â
Vinci Chang, director of sales Christieâ € ™ s Department of Asian contemporary Hong Kong, said: â € œThese artists grew up in post-Mao China and have seen a country with decades of unrest and political and social change. This has informed their work.â €
Such is the interest in art Chinese Charles Saatchi has opened his new gallery in Chelsea with an exhibition of new Chinese talent. Originally, he said, he met the Chinese art as well œkitschyâ Â € and â € € € œderivativeâ. â € œBut thereâ € ™ s enough material to put on a good show, â €, said in 2006. â € œMy rule is: if you can put this in the Whitney Biennial, and nobody will say, â € ~ Oh, thata € ™ s very good for a Chinese artist, â € ™ then you will fine.â €

Wang Guangyi
Chinese is seen as an exponent of â € ~ political aft € ™. His work, including compared to 2005? Â € ~ 2 € ™ Porscheâ, left, combines the styles of communist propaganda posters with the logos of consumers. â € ~ Stylistically merging the government enforced aesthetic of agitprop with the kitsch sensibility of American pop, Guangyi € ™ s of paper adopts the language of the Cold War of the 1960s to ironically examine the contemporary polemics of globalization â € ™ according the Saatchi Gallery.
Takashi Murakami
Murakami is one of the most thoughtful and thought Japanese artists of the 1990s. His work ranges from cartoon-like paintings and sculptures, almost minimalist giant inflatable balloons. It also sets in and performance events designs factory produces watches, shirts and many other commercial products. Murakami, 46, is credited with creating the â € ™ Superflat € ™ style of painting, which has flat surfaces of color images and charts derived from traditional Japanese anime and manga. Much of his work is adorned with his signature character, Mr. date of birth.
Zhang Xiaogang
Zhang is known for his surrealist paintings, Picasso and Dali, among his influences. Bloodline his series of paintings, including â € ~ Big Family € ™, right, and black stylized feature portraits of people from China in stiff, formal poses, reminiscent of portraits done in 1950 and 1960.
Zeng Fanzhi
Zeng is one of the most sought after Chinese contemporary artists. He combines expressionist and realist styles in his work, which often refers to relations between people. His series of paintings by the great man â € "with Karl Marx, Lenin, Stalin and Mao, among others â €" at first glance appears to be portraits, but subvert traditional representations with the use of black and white brushstrokes and expressive. Yue Minjun
Yue is a member of the Chinese cynical realist â € ~ ™ € movement. Also is famed for playing â € ~ ¤ ngers cloned doppelgà € ™, grotesquely distorted by the maniacal smile as 2005A € ™ s â € ~ Backyard Gardena € ™, on the left. The forced joviality of his anti-heroes echoes modern concerns.
World € ™ s 20 best selling artists
1 Jeff Koons, born in 1955 in Pennsylvania, incorporates kitsch imagery. Sold  £ 69.4m in the last year.
2 Jean-Michel Basquiat, born in 1960 in Brooklyn, New York, was a graffiti artist who died in 1988. Sold  £ 54.3m.
Damien Hirst 3, born in 1965 in Bristol, a key member of the Young British Artists. It sold a 45.7 m EUR.
4 Richard Prince, born in 1949 in Panama, is a painter and photographer. Sold  £ 33m.
5 Zhang Xiaogang, born in 1958 in chinaa € ™ s Yunnan province. Â £ Sold 32.3m.
6 Zeng Fanzhi, born in 1964 in Wuhan, is the auction record for contemporary Asian artists. Sold  £ 27.8m.
7 Yue Minjun, born in 1962 in Heilongjiang. Sold  £ 27.8m.
8 Takashi Murakami, born 1962, Tokyo, Japan. Possibly the most famous artist of the East on the list. Sold  £ 15.5m.
9 Wang Guangyi, born in 1957 in Heilongjiang. Sold  £ 11.7m
10 Liu Xiaodong, born 1963, Liaoning. Painter and photographer documented the controversial project of the Three Gorges dam. Sold  £ 10.5m.
11 Cai Guo-Qiang, born in 1957. Performance artist using the powder to produce â € ~ explosive events € ™. Sold  £ 10.1m.
12 Yan Pei-Ming, born 1960, Shanghai. Best known for the epic portrait of Mao Zedong and Bruce Lee. Sold  £ 9.9m.
13 Chen Yifei, born in 1946 in Zhejing. Among the first to enter the market Western art. He died in 2005. Sold  £ 9.7m.
14 Fang Lijun, born in 1963, Hebei. Painter of the â € ~ cynical realism € ™ school. Sold  £ 9.6m
15, Liu Ye, born in 1964, veteran of the post-1989 avant-garde movement. Sold  £ 8.8 million.
17 Zhou Chunya, born 1955, Sichuan. Known portraits green. Sold  £ 8.3m.
18 Anish Kapoor, born in 1954 in Mumbai, India. , Winner Turner Prize sculptor who has lived in England since 1972. Â £ 6.7 million Sold
19 Peter Doig, born 1959. The Scottish artist € ™ s paintings European are between € ™ s most expensive. Sold  £ 6.7m.
