How can I deal with an ex employee trying to scam my company?

We are a small business of only 3 employees. An ex employee stopped showing up to work after filing a bogus workers comp complaint. After it was denied she filed 2 more (also denied). She then filed for unemployment and disability (both denied). The last thing we received is a claim for unpaid lunches. Since she was the assistant manager, she chose not to clock out while she ate so she did get paid for this time. The agent handling our case granted the employee unpaid lunches for the amount of $687.50 along with $120 a day for the time she had to wait totaling $4,287.50. We have found out this person has done the same thing to other business. She is obviously a scam artist. Is it worth taking this to a hearing or not?

I have been a Store Manager for over 10 years. The First mistake you made is forgetting that just because someone is your friend today does not mean that they can be your worse friend tomorrow. She choose not to take her lunch, but if you did not get her to sign off that she did that it is just your word and her. I say let it go and learn from this. It could have cost you a lot more.

So my answer to your question is I would not take this to a hearing because you were still wrong, but I might just send a letter to them with the information from the other places she has work and maybe that could see that she is committing a crime.
