Still Life Artists Flowers
Planting an organic garden Cut Flowers
Most times, plant gardens only to watch them. We're going to day care and find little 6 packs of garden plants and arrange them in the garden to grow and flourish in an artistic pattern. This works fine, but it's so hard to bring the beauties inside and put them in a glass when they are so well off. With a cutting garden are not trying to create a perfect landscape, and do not want a garden that works for you and produce large quantities of cut flowers. You can place your cutting garden in an unused corner of your yard, out of the way, so do not feel like it
must look perfect.
Why are my plants so short?
You'll notice that most nurseries 6 packs produce compact plants with stems too clean short to make great flower arrangements. We do not know is the nursery industry has spun a conspiracy against tall plants. Nice seems gardeners as a care gardens, not growing tall plants that require a constant effort to keep it from moving further in the slightest rain or wind. However, the best flowers cut from the upper floors not 'dwarf' plants so common nowadays. To find the best varieties of cut flowers you'll have to ask for them by name. They are still there, but probably
Avoid the big box stores and buy from your local nursery or online.
Here's our Top 10 list of varieties of excellent cut flower:
Dianthus Amazon Series (neon purple, cherry and pink)
I can not say enough about this plant, which is essentially a "super-charged 'William Sweet! is incredibly tough, which blooms in very cold climates and flowers throughout the summer, even at temperatures above 100 degrees! Bright, showy, tall, with beautiful foliage. Cut flower will last for weeks in a vase. Unlike Most of the Sweet Williams, this Dianthus bloom the first year and is perennial rather than biennial.
Rudbeckia Indian Summer:
Big and beautiful like Margaret the black-eyed Susan flowers straight sturdy stems. It blooms all summer, and has an excellent vase life. Re-seeds freely, but not invasive. In fact, not a perennial consistent, but re-seeding your property back
each year.
Godetia Grace Series:
Spring flowers, but what a show! Tall stems and who need support. Plant early spring for late spring / early
summer flower.
Foxglove (Digitalis) Camelot:

heat than most digitialis, most of the summer flowers for us.
Peony Coral Charm:
Expensive and difficult to find, but worth every penny Magnificent! Great coral pink flowers that fade to white on the vase. Pick up a button to enjoy the entire show. Peonies take about 3 years to establish enough to where you can start
cut flowers, so they have a little patience.

the farm. Zone 5 or higher only.

Provide technical support:
Well now that you have found your excellent varieties of cut flowers and are planted with love your garden, do not forget that grow tall and need support. It is always easier to provide support for their stories high before coming to fight after they are shot down. You can support bamboo plants resistant tomato cages or a network of poly network. In the cut flower business we use a plastic mesh grid called Hortonova Trellis (www.groworganic.com), supported by 4 'pieces of 3 / 8 inch steel rods driven into the ground. You essentially create a horizontal plane of compensation to
the stems of the flowers can grow through, a little industrial, but very effective. Remember that this is not your garden-show
is the cutting garden, which is fine if it looks a little rough. The beautiful part is in vases at home!
Fertilizers and Pests:
The flowers of organic growth easy, in fact, most flowers prefer a moderately fertile soil. All chemical fertilizers are only going to make their plants too high, weak and susceptible to pests anyway. Start with good soil mixed with loose
a lot of well-rotted compost. Avoid compost 'pseudo' with a lot bark. Bark is the fertilizer and depleted soil nutrients. Good quality compost should have the consistency of coffee beans. In most cases it is better to leave pests in a garden to be cut. Many of them are beneficial and disturbing error / ecosystem of plants with insecticides is simply create more problems in the final. Be patient, let the bugs to balance themselves and have some lemonade, cut flowers will be better without the intervention of all those people. However, you will some weeding to do after you finish your lemonade. Be sure to remove all weeds before they flower and set seed to avoid a nightmare of bad herbs next year!
