The UK, despite the perceptions in the United States has a great scene and very popular rap with some very talented artists have put out some fantastic records in recent years.

In the United Kingdom, urban music has long been dominated for hip hop and grime artists, who have consistently taken first place in the UK charts consistently over the years. While hip-hop artists are not as large in the UK and the U.S., there are still names that are known throughout the country.

So if you're interested in learning more about hip hop in the United States, I suggest you check out these artists:

1. Squirrel

The rapper's real name Jahamaal Fyffe UK, but he chose the more pronounceable (and slightly ridiculous) Squirrel stage moniker. Squirrel won the Best Newcomer of the United Kingdom in the MOBO awards in 2008. His new album "I Am a Squirrel" is dropping this November and has built a lot of hype. While he is a newcomer, his style has already won a lot of fans and is definitely an artist worth watching.

2. Bashy

Real name Ashley Thomas, sometimes also goes by the name artistic "Twat." He released his debut solo album 09 January. Previously, he was acclaimed by the controversial track "Black Boys."

3. Wiley

Wiley is an MC and producer, whose real name is Richard Kyle Cowie. It is well known for being one of the pioneers of the genre of Grime. It is also well known as one of the founders of the Roll Deep Crew. Wiley found fame with the single "Wear My Rolex", released in 2008.

4. N-Dubz

A MOBO (Music Black Origin) award winning hip hop trio consisting of Dino "Dappy" Contostavlos, Tula "Tulisa" Contostavlos, and Richard "Fazer" coup Rawson in the British charts with their debut album, "Uncle B", which was certified platinum. I have always made strong after hitting the mainstream.

5. Ghetts

Justin Ghetts real name is Samuel Clarke Jude. The East London rapper is one of the pioneers of Grime and general has received much coverage. Its first album will be released in 2009, called "Rebel With a Cause" after winning a lot of fans with their underground mixtapes.
