2008 MS Harborfest weekend plans announced

PORTLAND, Maine (July 30, 2008) - The Maine Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is launching its 27th Annual MS Harborfest weekend beginning Thursday, August 14th continuing until Sunday, August 17th. The benefits of this four-day event oceanfront go to the local office to help find a cure for multiple sclerosis and for programs, assistance and support to the 3000 Maine families living with the disease. Approximately one in 400 residents of Maine has been diagnosed with MS, a prevalence rate of about 70% above the national average.

On Saturday, August 16th, the 27th Annual MS Harborfest Parade of Sail and Race to be held in Portland Harbor. Also Saturday, the MS Harborfest Powerboat Poker Run will take place on Casco Bay. Participants are invited to "dress ship" with decorations or costumes. After a parade around Portland Harbor, ships travel to marinas area (at each stop there will be a full and gifts) to pick up a single card label before tying in DeMille's Marina for a barbecue and awards ceremony. However, participants do not need a boat to join in the fun, the cards can be purchased at the door and include admission to the party, which take place under the tent, rain or shine.

On Sunday, August 17th, the annual MS Harborfest Parade Tug Muster and MS Harborfest and Shoreside Festival will take place at the Maine State Pier. The tugs are docked at the pier of the State of Maine, surrounded by a festival with survival suit races, exhibitions, food and entertainment for the whole family. At 2:00 pm, the tugs will be aligned to an impressive parade after which they will participate in exciting competitions and races in Casco Bay. Admission is free Shoreside Festival.
