what do some indie artists/bands really mean when they started their own record label?
it seems like a trend these days that the 'small' indie bands/artists forming or starting their own record labels.
what i still don't understand is: what exactly do they DO , by starting their own record label?
suppose if i produce my own music, then put into like 500 CDs, and do printing designs for my own album, and finally sell them to my friends & some shops or distribution outlets, AND then i've just decided to give a name to my OWN record label, now does this mean i've already "started my own record label" ? or it's not that simple?
what EXACTLY i (as an indie/independent artist, or band) have to do to start my own record label?
and also , what do i do once i've formed my own record label?
it's still blurry, and i need your help!

Yes simply put this means you have already started your own record label. The next step of course would be to get the various city, state, and federal licenses to be legally considered a label. After that you can start to hire employees to do the printing, selling, shop contacting, etc. All while you focus on making great music and producing new albums.
Every Indie artists is doing something different with their own Record Label. The biggest advantage though is to better organize the team of people who will continue to take you to the next level.
