How to make the best use of your home business space

It is not uncommon for an owner of a home business is the location of its offices in one room smaller home, as the balance of the space requirements of the company and the family is a challenge.

This makes it even more important than office space is well used and very utilitarian in its design and layout. The days of the placement of a kitchen table, spare a couple of cardboard boxes have been available in the Ministry of Interior. Today, advanced electronics, storage of important files and plenty of work surfaces are needed productive way to run a home business.

Q. In order to maximize the money available to create new products for me, I want to create a home office in my studio apartment to eliminate outside income. Any suggestions on how to best use my limited space?

R. Key good use of limited space is to use both vertical and horizontal space as productively as possible. Several steps will help in the production and effective design. In First, plan ahead. Make a diagram of your space and all that you believe the list will be put in space, such as a desk, chair, lamp, table computer cabinets, fax machines, wall decorations, presentation equipment and supplies, files, etc. Many office supply stores templates which allows a grid to represent your office space and scale symbols to represent the common equipment. Have a good time moving the pieces around the grill. Second Instead, think small. You can search the storage units that can be added easily and modular desks open in a number of sections. Many manufacturers RTA (ready to assemble) furniture, such as O'Sullivan and Gusdorf offer this type of desktop computer. Third, find the best way to store items efficiently. To do so, making a list of articles that use daily, weekly and occasionally. Keep them accordingly. Fourth, the use of color to enliven the space. Consider the possibility of coordinating the curtains or blinds and a carpet. Create a focal point with striking art on the walls. Finally, build, not. Within the limits of safety and visual harmony, do not be afraid to build shelves above your desk or sofa.

P. A friend of my house recently caught fire and destroyed most of his home office. She is out of business now. How I can prevent this tragedy?

A. Of first importance, of course, is trying to avoid a fire in the first place by being diligent in the use of extra fireplaces, stoves and other appliances high power. To protect against complete disaster in the case of a fire or a catastrophic event, follow theses tips:

  • Prepare copies of important computer data security. Keep discs out of his office, as in a safe.
  • Use extension cords approved by UL and protective voltage on your computer. Do not string too many pieces of equipment in an electrical outlet.
  • Make sure all doors and windows lock securely. If your office is facing the back yard, consider installing a motion sensor light outside the window of his office.
  • Draw blinds or curtains at night and when out of the office for some time. Do not make it too obvious what you have.
