An appeal Dying Mothers of the Minneapolis Urban League falls on deaf ears

Regina Edwards is a woman 40 years old, Black, with 6 children has lived in North Minneapolis for the past 6 years. Regina is dying of pancreatic cancer. Doctors say they can not operate. 2 out of 10 people get this cancer, but for now itâ € ™ s diagnosis, itâ € ™ s also late. In the mixture of all your oven is not working, your house is cold, and she has no food in the fridge because their electricity is cut. At this time, (during this interview) shea € ™ s ready to go to chemotherapy at North Memorial Hospital. There is no one more than the daughter of his 18 years of age to care for siblings. No relatives, no grandparents € | Anyone.

Regina has been a political activist and worked at the Urban League of Madison Area and the city of Madison. She has also worked for International Culinary School in Burnsville, Minnesota and graduated from Minneapolis Community Technical College in May with a degree in Culinary Arts. Reginae € ™ s path to education, wealth and independence of monitoring in the right direction.

But Thereâ € ™ sa lot more for reginae € ™ s history. In addition to his new home donated by people who lived there before, after the landlord gave him the key without change the locks the day before Thanksgiving, has produced a list of events that have happened to Regina that she needs to let out. So letâ € ™ s start with the Minneapolis Urban League. Regina says she knew things I miss about Minneapolis Urban League when leadership was like, â € œthe Pantera Rosa, â € says Ms. Edwards, â € œThese people donâ € ™ t want to discuss any other matter that their paychecks. They get into everything as if were Invisible.ir €

Regina said, â € € ™ m tired of fighting IAEA. Since the hospital social workers Section 8 - no one was available to Minneapolis Urban League to address, help or advise me on what to do and how a dying mother to get help for herself and her children in a real time need.â € As I talk to her tonight, her daughter wants to use the computer for homework â € "but Regina tells her daughter, â € œYou canâ € ™ t connect your computer to time the heaters are connected because the fuse blows at Regina basement.â €, doesnâ € ™ t like to go in the basement that has flooded this summer and is full of mold. She has 4 children sleep in the bed with her to keep warm.

Regina went to the Minneapolis Urban League to seek help and guidance from Dr. Brover that has a â € € œboot campaign in the Minneapolis Urban League that helps families. Because reginae € ™ s list of issues, Ms. Edwards said, â € œIt was a laugh, we had so many things that never returned the call. I even called when I was in the hospital, still no response.â €

Regina was first diagnosed with cancer 2 August 2008 and underwent surgery without success, she sought help from the Minneapolis Urban League for her and her children went unheeded. Meanwhile his daughter of 15 years of age fell in love with skipping school and hanging out at the Minneapolis Urban League. Reginae € ™ s 15 years old daughter, was a fugitive allegedly received a ™ s € ore Whoa homes operate outside the MUL.  Now the young man of 15 years is 1 ½ months pregnant (supposedly) by a 19 year old has told the mother (Regina), â € € ™ s œSheâ only 15, you can get a € abortion.â Ms. Edwards says, â € œMy daughter does not have an abortion! These people in the Minneapolis Urban League that smile on my face are the same ones responsible for my daughter pregnant. Itâ € ™ sa shame that the porter at the Minneapolis Urban League knew my daughter was pregnant before I did. Where is the accountability process? € Â

Regina continues, â € œI have asked everyone in the Minneapolis Urban League to help me after my money was asked gone.â €, â € œWhat you have programs that can be part of helping to support my family together.â € The only thing that has shown no compassion or attention to me was a pair of very nice ladies at the reception. The men of the Urban League to include local pastors who are associated with MUL, Regina said: â € œI wouldnâ € ™ t trust me when I bury die.â € Mrs. Edwards was talking about a fund that would be responsible for assisting her and their children during this difficult time. It has been argued that there were no proceeds that never came to Ms. Edwards.

Regina also says, â € Oeno one further north (Minneapolis) wants to be accountable for anything in the community. They only care about themselves. If truly Minneapolis Urban League serving the town north of Minneapolis, would have more jobs, better schools, programs that worked and a different future than mine, which ultimately is death! â €

Doctors at Memorial North and Hennepin County Medical Center say that Regina has cancer in some cases can be prevented through exercise, healthy eating, nutrition education and community awareness, responsible for the disparities health in the Black community. With all due respect, this should be addressed by local social service agencies through partnerships with local universities and hospitals to increase top of mind awareness for diseases that affect the Black community than the mainstream, and in some cases due to unhealthy diets, lack of food sources (food bank) and no money to make healthy choices. The cluster of social welfare in the Minneapolis Urban League has received dollars address these issues in a monumental level but with the lack of leadership and process the message is muted to a whisper quite unsuccessfully measurable results. â € œItâ € ™ s not attend the parties of the Minneapolis Urban League to raise awareness about a disease, we need boots on the ground going door to door to the community Black. These people act as if they are too good to serve the peopleâ €, says Ms. Edwards.

Is the University of Minnesota-Side North UROC association or really the answer needs north Minneapolis? Itâ € ™ s been almost a year since a University and an anthropologist amounted in north Minneapolis with all the grace of a Messiah. Yet no one has the face of high unemployment, or economic incentives and a static sense community in ruins. We also have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Robert Jones, D Craig Taylor and Dr. Irma McClurin of the University of Minnesota still donâ € ™ t have a healthy source of food distribution as a cooperative in the north that was spoken of with great hope earlier this year.

The story continues. The Minneapolis Urban League has lost touch with the community. In a survey, taken at random in the corners of Penn Avenue and Plymouth Avenue in front of Minneapolis Urban League, 20 people aged 18 to 65 were asked two questions:

1. What does the Minneapolis Urban League do?

2. Who is the President of the Minneapolis Urban League?

Not one person knew what happens in the piece of real estate sitting on the corner of Penn and Plymouth Avenue North now that the President was. Of course, people had an idea of what the agency should do â € "thatâ € ™ sa whole other story € | soon to come.

What comes to mind is, where are community leaders? By Moreover, where are the civil rights leaders? Take note, on Tuesday, 09 de diciembre 2008 a 25 year old Black man named Smith Minneapolis Quincy Police tazer to death for Minneapolis in 1035 Knox Avenue North € | Black organizations are not said a word. The reports say he had a bad heart.

He does not deserve to die like this â € "no matter what the circumstances were.

Last Friday at a meeting Community asked why I left after the Black social service agencies so difficult and why I donâ € ™ t â € tackle some € people. white "My answer to this person sitting in the Minneapolis Urban League Board was simple. I said, â € œI donâ € ™ t get thousands of dollars each year from the Minneapolis Urban League for advertising. I never had dollars or NRRC Northway Community Trust. By the way â € "has signed the declaration of conflict of interest yet? â €

â € œBlack peopleâ working in service agencies office in north Minneapolis that have been placed in positions to help people â € € œstep up.â is no longer tolerated in mainstream organizations Black and demand that stupidity does not have money to complete the missions, but to serve themselves at the highest level, wanting nothing.

The innocence of not knowing about what is happening in the Black community doesnâ € ™ t fly from today.

Thereâ € ™ sa Black president!
